Venting

Talking through frustrations or stress to relieve them, often without seeking advice.

Venting is expressing pent-up frustration, stress, or emotion — usually to feel relief, not necessarily to solve the problem. When someone is venting, they often want to be heard and understood rather than given solutions.

Anonymous chat is a common outlet for venting precisely because the listener does not know you: there is less fear of judgment, and no lasting record tied to your identity. Talking to a neutral stranger can make it easier to say things you would hesitate to tell people in your life.

Good venting support is mostly listening. If you are on the receiving end, acknowledging how someone feels is usually more helpful than jumping to fix it. Venting is not a substitute for professional help when someone is in real distress.
