Safety Guidelines

Chatting with strangers should be fun, not risky. Here is how to protect yourself — and how TruChat's tools back you up.

How to stay safe

Keep personal details private

Never share your full name, address, phone number, workplace, school, or financial details — no matter how friendly the conversation gets. A genuine connection will never need them.

Watch for pressure to move off-platform

Scammers almost always try to move you to another app quickly, then build toward money: an "investment tip", an emergency, a gift card. Anyone who brings up money, crypto, or trading is a scam — report and block them.

Treat every image as permanent

View-Once and blocking reduce casual misuse, but nothing sent over the internet can be guaranteed unsaveable. Never send a photo you couldn't afford to be shared.

Report early, block freely

You never owe anyone a conversation. The moment a chat feels off, block them — it takes one tap, it's permanent, and they are never told why. Reporting also helps us remove them for everyone else.

If you are in crisis

If you or someone you are chatting with is thinking about self-harm, please reach out for real support — you matter. International helplines are listed at findahelpline.com. If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.

How TruChat protects you

One-Tap Blocking

You have total control over who can speak to you — no opaque "shadowbanning" algorithms. If someone makes you uncomfortable, click Block. They are instantly removed from your view and can never message you again.

Automated Filters

Links, spam, contact-detail patterns, and prohibited language are blocked automatically before they reach you, in every room and private chat.

Crisis Support

If our systems detect language suggesting someone is in distress, we automatically show mental-health and crisis support resources — privately, to that person only.

View-Once Media

Images can be sent as View-Once: the recipient must hold to view, and the image hides in the app after being seen. It deters casual saving — it cannot make screenshots impossible, so pair it with the tip above.
