Group Chat
A conversation shared among three or more people at once.
A group chat is a conversation with three or more participants, where everyone can see and respond to the same messages. Chat rooms are a form of group chat organized around a topic or space.
Group chats have a different social dynamic than one-on-one conversations: multiple threads can happen at once, quieter participants can hang back, and the tone is set collectively rather than by two people. This makes them great for finding community, but also means etiquette and moderation matter more.
Many people use group settings to meet several people at once, then move to a private chat with anyone they particularly connect with.
