Video Chat

A real-time conversation using live video and audio, rather than text.

Video chat is a conversation carried out over live streaming video and audio, letting two or more people see and hear each other in real time instead of typing.

On anonymous chat platforms, video introduces a different tradeoff than text: it is more personal and harder to fake (which reduces catfishing), but it also reveals your face, so it involves sharing more of your identity. Many people prefer to start in text and only move to video once they are comfortable.

Because video is harder to moderate automatically than text, platforms that offer it typically rely more heavily on user reporting and rapid response to keep it safe.
