Typing Indicator
A signal (often animated dots) showing that the other person is currently typing a reply.
A typing indicator is the small cue — commonly three animated dots — that appears when the person you are chatting with is actively composing a message.
It makes real-time conversation feel more alive and human by signaling that a reply is on its way, reducing the uncertainty of waiting. It also sets a natural rhythm, letting you know when to wait rather than send another message.
Like read receipts, typing indicators trade a little privacy for a lot of immediacy, which is why they are a hallmark of live chat rather than slower messaging.
