Ghosting

Suddenly ending all contact with someone, without explanation, instead of saying you want to stop talking.

Ghosting is ending a conversation or relationship by abruptly cutting off all communication, with no explanation, rather than saying directly that you want to stop talking.

In casual chat contexts (like random chat), simply leaving a conversation is normal and expected — it is not considered ghosting in the same way it would be in an ongoing friendship or relationship built over multiple conversations.

Ghosting becomes a more meaningful social issue once two people have built some rapport or made plans, since the sudden silence leaves the other person without closure.
