Community Guidelines

The rules every user agrees to follow when using a platform, and what happens if they are broken.

Community guidelines are the explicit rules a platform sets for user behavior — what is and is not allowed, and what enforcement actions follow a violation. They typically cover things like harassment, illegal content, spam, and impersonation.

Good community guidelines are specific and enforced consistently, not just a legal formality. The gap between what guidelines say and what a platform actually enforces is one of the most common sources of user distrust.

Community guidelines are usually paired with user-facing tools — like blocking and reporting — that let individuals enforce their own boundaries in addition to platform-level moderation.
